Doctor of Physical Therapy · Revelle

Pelvic floor physical therapist working one-on-one with a patient at Revelle's Greenwood Village clinic in Denver.

If you live in Denver, you have probably noticed something: pelvic floor physical therapy went from a quiet, behind-the-scenes specialty to a topic your group chat actually talks about. The friend who finally stopped leaking on her trail runs in Wash Park. The neighbor in Greenwood Village who said her postpartum recovery "didn't really start" until she found a pelvic floor PT. The coworker who, after years of being told her painful sex was "just stress," walked out of her first evaluation with a real explanation.

We are glad that conversation is finally happening out loud. We are also aware that, if you are the one Googling at 10pm wondering whether this is for you, the noise can be a lot. There are wellness studios, OB recommendations, Instagram reels, and a whole spectrum of clinics from hospital systems to boutique practices. It is hard to tell what is hype and what is care.

This is a plain-language guide from Revelle's Denver clinic in Greenwood Village. We will walk through what pelvic floor PT actually is, the most common reasons people in the Denver metro book with us, what your first visit looks like, and how Colorado's direct-access law lets you skip the referral step entirely. No fearmongering. No upsell. Just the information a friend who happened to be a Doctor of Physical Therapy would give you.

When to See a Pelvic Floor PT

Book a pelvic floor PT evaluation if any of the following are true for you:

    • You leak urine when you run, jump, sneeze, laugh, or lift — at any age
    • You feel pressure, heaviness, or a "bearing down" sensation in your pelvis
    • Sex is painful, or has become painful, or you are bracing through it
    • You are 6+ weeks postpartum and something still does not feel right — physically or emotionally
    • You have a diastasis recti (abdominal separation) that has not closed on its own
    • You have ongoing low back, hip, or tailbone pain that has not responded to traditional PT
    • You are preparing for birth and want to train your pelvic floor the way you would train for any other athletic event
    • You are in perimenopause and noticing new symptoms — dryness, urgency, leakage, pressure — that nobody is taking seriously

Colorado is a direct-access state. That means you do not need a physician referral to see a pelvic floor PT. You can book directly with our Denver (Greenwood Village) clinic and start care this week.

What is pelvic floor physical therapy, really?

The pelvic floor is a hammock of muscles, fascia, and connective tissue that sits at the base of your pelvis. It supports your bladder, uterus, and rectum against gravity all day long, it coordinates with your diaphragm every time you breathe, it stabilizes your spine and hips during every step, and it is involved in continence, sex, and birth.

When that system is working well, you do not think about it. When it gets overloaded — by pregnancy, birth, chronic constipation, repeated heavy lifting, surgery, stress, hormonal shifts, or simply years of accumulated load — you start to notice. Leakage. Pressure. Pain. Difficulty with sex. A sense that your core never really came back.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is the rehabilitation of that system. It is hands-on, one-on-one care from a Doctor of Physical Therapy with advanced training in pelvic health. It is not Kegels on a handout. It is not a pamphlet. It is a real clinical evaluation followed by a real treatment plan built around your body, your history, and your goals.

Serving the whole Denver metro from Greenwood Village

Our Denver clinic sits in Greenwood Village, which makes us reachable for patients across Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Englewood, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, DTC, and into central Denver. We chose this location intentionally — it is a part of the metro where active, busy women have historically had to drive 30+ minutes to find truly one-on-one pelvic floor care.

A few patterns we see in the Denver patient population specifically:

Active recovery. Denver moms run, ski, climb, hike, lift, and chase kids at altitude. We see a lot of "I got cleared at six weeks and went straight back to my old training load — and now something is wrong." Return-to-running and return-to-lifting programming is a huge part of what we do here.

Altitude and breath mechanics. It is not the headline reason anyone books, but the way you breathe affects the way your pelvic floor works. Patients who moved to Denver from sea level sometimes notice symptoms (urgency, pressure, breath-holding through lifts) that they did not have before. We address breath mechanics in nearly every plan of care.

Perimenopause that nobody warned you about. A large share of our Denver caseload is women 38 to 55 noticing new symptoms — leakage, dryness, pressure, painful sex — and being told by a busy provider that "this is just what happens." It is not. There is a lot we can do.

What does a first visit actually look like?

Your first appointment at our Greenwood Village clinic is 60 minutes, one-on-one with your Doctor of Physical Therapy, in a private treatment room. No shared gym floor. No tech handoff. No rushing.

    The visit has three parts.

The conversation. We spend real time on your history — symptoms, birth history if relevant, surgical history, bowel and bladder patterns, sexual health, training and activity, sleep, stress, what you have already tried, and what you actually want your body to be able to do. This is where most of the diagnostic work happens.

The physical assessment. We look at posture, breathing pattern, rib and hip mobility, core engagement, and movement patterns relevant to your goals (squat, lift, run, carry). With your consent, we perform an internal pelvic floor exam — vaginal or rectal — to assess tone, strength, coordination, and tissue health directly. You are always in control of what happens; nothing proceeds without your explicit yes.

The plan. Before you leave, you walk out with a working diagnosis in plain language, an honest estimate of how many visits this is likely to take (usually 6 to 10), a small set of homework, and a clear next step. If we are not the right care for you, we say so and refer you out.

How is this different from "regular" PT?

Traditional outpatient PT is often 30 minutes, sometimes shared between two patients, frequently delivered by a PT assistant after the first visit. That model works for some orthopedic injuries. It does not work for the pelvic floor, where most of the meaningful change happens through skilled hands-on assessment and treatment, motor learning, and time spent actually listening.

Every visit at Revelle is 60 minutes, one-on-one, with the same Doctor of Physical Therapy from start to finish. We are out-of-network with insurance, which is what makes that model possible — but we provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement, and most patients are surprised by how quickly they see results when care is delivered this way. Fewer, better visits.

    Insurance, cost, and HSA/FSA

Revelle Denver is an out-of-network provider. Practically, that means:

    • You pay at the time of service
    • We provide a detailed superbill you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement
    • HSA and FSA cards are accepted
    • Many of our patients receive meaningful reimbursement; some receive none — it depends entirely on your specific plan

We are upfront about this on the front end because we never want cost to be the surprise. If you would like to know what to expect, our Denver front desk is happy to walk you through it before you book.

Common reasons Denver patients book with us

A non-exhaustive list, from our actual schedule:

    • Postpartum recovery (weeks 6 through year 2 — and beyond)
    • Diastasis recti that has not closed
    • Stress urinary incontinence with running, lifting, or skiing
    • Urinary urgency and frequency
    • Pelvic pressure or heaviness, including prolapse
    • Painful sex (dyspareunia, vaginismus, vulvodynia)
    • Endometriosis-related pelvic pain
    • Interstitial cystitis and chronic bladder symptoms
    • C-section scar restriction
    • Tailbone pain (coccydynia)
    • Pregnancy prep and pelvic floor training for birth
    • Perimenopausal pelvic and vulvar changes

If you are not sure whether what you are experiencing belongs on that list, take our 2-minute symptom quiz — it will point you to the right starting place — or read more about postpartum pelvic floor physical therapy and the prolapse and pelvic pressure we treat most often.

What to expect after your first visit

Most plans of care are 6 to 10 visits, scheduled weekly or every other week. You will leave each visit with a short, specific home program — usually 5 to 10 minutes a day, not a 45-minute routine that nobody actually does. Progress shows up in real life: the first run without leaking, the first pain-free intimacy in months, the first day you forget you were ever worried about it.

We discharge actively. When you are ready to be done with us, we say so — and we send you off with a long-term plan to keep the gains.

A note on finding the right pelvic floor PT in Denver

We are not the only pelvic floor PT clinic in the metro, and we are genuinely glad about that. More access is good for everyone. A few things to look for as you choose anyone — us or otherwise:

    • A Doctor of Physical Therapy with post-graduate training in pelvic health (look for credentials like WCS, PRPC, or significant continuing education in the field)
    • 60-minute, one-on-one visits, ideally in a private treatment room
    • A practice that performs internal pelvic floor assessments with consent (without this, the assessment is incomplete)
    • A treatment plan that is specific to you — not a printout handed to every patient
    • A clinician who listens more than they lecture

    Ready to start?

If you have read this far, you probably already know your body is asking for something. Whether or not Revelle ends up being your clinic, please do not keep waiting. Pelvic symptoms get treated, not tolerated.

To book at our Greenwood Village clinic, head to our Denver location page. If you are still figuring out what is going on, take our 2-minute symptom quiz. And if you want to read more about what we treat, our pelvic floor physical therapy overview is a good next step.

You do not need a referral. You do not need to wait for your six-week visit. You do not need to "just live with it."
